Being homeschooled, I was given the freedom to pursue any topic of my fancy. My studies have led me through biology, holistic medicine, physics, economics, calculus, chemistry, aquaponics, greenhouse and soil gardening, and many different art forms/styles/mediums. I learned drawing, painting, claymation, pyrography, and music, teaching myself to play the piano and classical guitar.
In my early teen years, I would set up a stand every weekend in my front yard to sell baked goods I made from scratch, various seedling plants that I grew over the winter months, and sold my parents artwork. I'm also a published poet.
I enjoy hiking and swimming and just being outdoors in nature . I just love watching animals in their natural habitat.
Fast forward a few years, I was walking along the beach one day when I stumbled across some very interesting looking rocks and my curiosity got the better of me. So I took some home for further study. After reading about gemology and the art of lapidary, I was hooked.
After some extensive research and discovering that this art is most definitely not cheap to pursue, I set about designing and fabricating (with a little help from dear old Dad) a faceting machine. And this makes each of my gemstones truly one of a kind, not only are the gemstones I find unique on their own merits but I also cut and polish them on a faceting machine that I can guarantee is the only one of its kind.
I have been happily learning to perfect my craft for over a year and love discovering new techniques, while pouring my heart and soul into each of my creations.
The materials I work with are specifically chosen for their characteristics both physically and spiritually. Chalcedony in particular takes millions upon millions of years to form through an absorption process, lending itself to the idea of being layered with earthly wisdoms untold. It is said to be a stone of peace and calm for the spirit, particularly for children. Also said to be protective and a talisman of luck, this stone has it all. When I work with it I truly feel at peace wishing nothing more than to pass its charms along.
